A man or woman who angers easily with verbal or physical outbursts creates an environment where they feel they are in control. The irony is that they are often the only one "out of control". But in the midst of their repeated anger, oftentimes relationships are damaged, trust is deeply eroded, fear takes the place of love, and problems go unresolved and thus multiply.
All anger is not wrong - else why would God ever get angry (which He does), or how could Jesus Christ remain sinless when he was angered if all anger is sin (which it is not). But when a person displays ungodly anger, righteous purposes are not served. As the book of James states in 1:20: "The anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God."
And yet, angry people usually feel justified in their anger, insisting that their behavior is someone else's fault ('You make me so mad!'). Without taking a step back and examining the root cause of one's hot-tempered responses, dealing with the outbursts will only be a bandaid. It's one thing to try to change WHAT is going on at the time of wrathful response, but the turning point in making lasting change comes with understanding WHY one becomes angered so easily.
Expressing one's emotions is critical to healthy communication.
