Before a soldier enters combat, he or she undergoes basic training, then further training on weapons, communications, battlefield tactics, the enemy, etc. Before an athlete competes in an organized sport, he or she learns from coaches who teach sound fundamentals of the sport, and then spends countless hours of practice in preparation to compete effectively and win. Preparation is critical, at least if you want to win the game, or the war. Pre marriage counseling is all about preparation before your wedding day and the challenges that follow.
56% of marriages in North Carolina end up in divorce. Why? In the majority of cases, they have either never been taught HOW to build and guard a Christ centered marriage, or they have not yet developed the necessary skills in APPLYING that which they learned. Preparation often is grossly lacking.
Good marriages don't "just happen". Neither do broken marriages. Things go right in a marriage when the right things are known and put into practice. Things go wrong in a marriage when the wrong things are in practice. Most couples spend more time preparing for the one day event of a church wedding than they do for the lifelong adventure of Christian marriage.
At ABCC, we offer Pre Marriage Christian Counseling that will 1) help couples identify areas of need or vulnerability BEFORE they enter into the covenant commitment of marriage, 2) provide biblical instruction on HOW to grow strong in those areas, and 3) assist couples in the day-to-day application of the biblical instruction so they can experience the incredibly joyful blessings of a lifelong unity following the "I do". Preparation, with the qualified assistance of a Christian counselor, is highly recommended.
